High School Honor’s Biology
Mrs. Beth Asmann
Exploring life in God’s glorious creation!
Biology is more than a textbook; it is the exploration of all living things around us. This biology class will take you from inside a cell, out to Phinizy Swamp, into a squid. We will explore populations, cell structures, genetics, plant and animal kingdoms, and human body systems. Each week there will be discussions, labs and hands-on activities. We will take field trips with Southeastern Natural Science Academy to investigate the urban watershed and stream ecology. At the end of the course, you will be prepared to take the Biology-E or Biology-M SAT subject test if you desire.
Who am I?
I am a graduate of Georgia Tech with a B.S. in Applied Biology and went to work at the Centers for Disease Control in the Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever lab. From there I was employed at a chemical company, which brought me to Augusta. While volunteering with Young Life in Augusta two things happened: 1) I met my husband of 19 years, and 2) God called me to leave my job and work with high school students full time by teaching. For 4 years I taught biology, anatomy, and earth science in public schools until we started a family and I wanted to be at home with my children. I have homeschooled for 9 years and my children and I have been actively involved with Science Olympiad, Science Quiz Bowl, math competitions and Robotics Teams.
The class will meet 2 hours, on Wednesdays from 9am-11am
